Why make the switch to natural cleaning?

We have been programmed to think chemicals equal clean.

That we need harsh chemicals with claims of being 99.9% effective against bacteria.

That we need a sterile environment to thrive.

We would like to challenge that idea

Sterile environments are devoid of the microbes which we require as humans, for healthy functioning systems.

Research suggests that exposure to environmental microbes in infancy trains our immune responses and improves our tolerance to potential allergens.

Now we are not saying don’t clean – after all we do sell cleaning products. What we are saying is that using products claiming to kill everything may not be such a good idea. It is important that we have access to the beneficial effects which microbes have on our human and natural environment.

Chemicals found in conventional cleaning products can be acutely dangerous especially for children and pets. But can also degrade our health over the long term.

An analysis of ingredients in cleaning products conducted by the Environmental Working Group revealed that 75% cause lung problems, 25% are linked to cancer, 20% are linked to reproductive and development disorders in children, 10% were skin irritants and 10% were capable of permanently damaging the eyes.

Companies often use greenwashing claims and buzz words to mislead the consumer. However, their claims often lack transparency.

Ingredient labels are mandatory for food and cosmetics – but not for cleaning products. Manufacturers aren’t required to disclose all ingredients in their cleaning products and many don’t, including some “green” cleaning manufacturers.

We would also question…

Do we need products with synthetic fragrance that do not contribute to the cleaning action? Do we need synthetic dyes added to our cleaning products that do no more than draw our eye to the product on the shelf?

Do we want to be accumulating unnecessary plastic packaging that will clutter our homes and end up in landfill or even the recycling plant.

True has formulated cleaning products free from single use plastic, that will not harm the environment.

We voluntarily include a full list of ingredients in plain English. We offer 100% transparency so you can be mindful with your purchase and confident in the use of our product in your home.

We source the purest of ingredients from organic wite vinegar to aluminium free sodium bicarbonate. The essential oils we add for cleaning action are proven pure through independent batch testing. Ingredients selected for use within our products are food grade where available – now this doesn’t mean we recommend ingesting our products, they were not formulated for taste! However, it does mean you can be 100% confident using our products around your children and pets. You can rest assured that you are cleaning your home without the risk of eroding your health.

True’s home cleaning range includes:

  • Multi-surface spray concentrate (can be used on most surfaces).

  • Bathroom soft scrub (to replace your cream cleaners, can also be used to clean the oven).

  • Washing up block (to replace your washing up liquid).

Effectively you could clean your whole house with these three items.

We have plans to expand our cleaning range in 2023 with formulations for a mould spray and toilet fizzies.

In addition to finding cleaning products you can trust, here are a few additional steps you can take to help you create a healthy home environment:

  • Remove shoes at the door

This is a really good practice to get into. It's free and it avoids tracking in not only dirt but chemicals off your shoes: from your stop at the petrol station, weed killer from the pavement or pesticides from your walk in the countryside.

  • Open the windows

Our indoor air quality could be up to 5 times worse than the outdoor air quality.

  • Dust with a damp cloth

Ensuring dust is removed and not just disturbed. Dust has been found to contain chemicals such as DDT that were banned several decades ago.

  • Avoid the use of air fresheners

Unfortunately while these mask unwanted odours, fragrances can contain hundreds of synthetic chemicals to make up one aroma; these can trigger allergies and asthma.

Why not diffuse pure essential oils for the same effect (doTERRA is our brand recommendation).
